The Peace Kanga Project
The Peace Kanga Project is dedicated to supporting and promoting peace and unity in Kenya. Our mission is to distribute kangas with messages of peace to Kenyan women across the country. This kanga has been uniquely designed and manufactured for the Peace Kanga Project.

Currently over 300,000 Kenyans have been forced to flee their homes due to ethnic clashes in Kenya. Some have been relocated back to their homes, but many still reside in camps and are without permanent residence. Those of us who have had the wonderful opportunity to spend time or to live in Kenya cannot imagine the brutal violence that has occured there since the December 2007 elections. The ethnic component to this violence has polarized Kenyans in a way that has been unseen in the past. The Peace Kanga Project seeks to send a message of peace to families who have been affected by violence.
What is a Kanga?

A kanga is in the shape of a rectangle and made from cotton cloth. Created in bold colors and designs, kangas can cover a woman from her waist to her ankle. They can be worn in pairs, with one on the head and one around the waist as a skirt or as a single covering.
Kangas are multifunctional. They can be worn as a wrap, over clothing. They are often worn on the head. They carry babies on their mother’s back. They are wrapped around large loads that must be carried. For decades, kangas have also served another purpose, to convey a message.
