What does it say?

"Kanga nenda na umoja udumishe amani" which means "kanga, go with unity and establish a lasting peace."  As if talking to the kanga the writing goes with the whole idea of giving kanga as gifts to loved ones. Here the gift giver "instructs" the kanga to go to the recipient delivering unity and peace.

Why this design?

Every element of the kanga design was chosen for a specific reason. The large figure in the center of the kanga is a West African symbol called “Bin Nka Bi” which means “Don’t bite each other”. It is a symbol of unity and democracy.

The smaller repeated symbol around the border of the kanga is another West African symbol called “Siamese Crocodiles”. It represents 2 crocodiles that share a stomach but fight over food. It is a warning against tribalism and a call for cooperation and unity.

The peace kanga is created in shades of pink with a black design. The color pink combines the energies of red and white and are effective in neutralizing disorder and violence. The color pink reflects feelings of caring, tenderness, self-worth, love and acceptance. Placing pink in your life can create relaxation, acceptance, and contentment.
